Over the past week and a half, school personnel have prioritized contacting and communicating with all their students and families. To that end, Chromebook distribution started today. 35 Chromebooks were loaned out today and more are scheduled for tomorrow. If you or your student has not yet been in touch directly with at least one teacher, please do so via email, or dojo/remind tomorrow. Let me know if I can help.
Teachers are working on creative ways to teach and communicate with students during the learning process. Remote learning is a new challenge for all of us, but we are fortunate to be home to some very tech savvy staff members; they are putting together tutorials that will help everyone during this transition. Please stay tuned for more information from your student's teachers, District, and me.
Lunch staff has already distributed 320 meal boxes (3 breakfasts and 3 lunches per box) over the last three days. Pick up is from 9 -1, Monday - Friday, at door 9 on the Foster Street side.
For our eighth grade families, high school application results will be available March 27th. Please email Ms. Chmiel at email@example.com for details.
And drum roll please.......the Budlong Student of the Week is eighth grader, Mylene Mendez. Please read why her teachers selected her to receive this recognition:
It is with great pleasure that the 8th grade team at Budlong Elementary is awarding Mylene Mendez the honor of Student of the Week. During these trying times, Mylene has continuously exemplified the Habits of Mind, Heart, and Work that embody what being #BudlongBeautiful is all about. Mylene has shown determination by completing all of her assigned work for all core academic subject areas and submitting the work virtually, a concept that is not only new to her but to all of us. She has shown perseverance by communicating with her teachers and working through challenges during times of confusion, rather than simply calling it quits. She has shown kindness, helpfulness, and heart by participating in weekly video conferences with her teacher, reaching out to other students to ensure their involvement, and remaining positive in her interactions with peers and staff alike. We are overjoyed to announce Mylene Mendez as our 8th grade Student of the Week!
Way to go, Mylene! We are all very proud of you.
I also want to share the inspiring work of Ms. Annette Bautista, a Budlong special education aide, and her son. They live in the neighborhood and are sewing masks for healthcare workers at Swedish! She also made some for our lunchroom and maintenance staff :)
Finally, thank you to those families participating in the #Budlongbeautiful Rainbow Challenge today. A video will be shared on our website, and sent out by teachers. And thank you to Ms. Crespo for putting together the video, and Ms. Salas for the song selection.
Have a good night.
