Dear Budlong Families,
Budlong under the Stars is finally here!!!! In preparation for the event, dismissal will be a few minutes earlier than normal. Please see the times for your student, for Friday, 5/30:
For students picked up at dismissal, you can meet the students on the sidewalk side of the placards (instead of on the actual field). The field will be closed off until the event begins at 4pm. We are asking that all students leave school grounds at dismissal and return at 4 for the event.
If you haven't purchased your event wristbands yet, pre-sales end tomorrow at 8:45 AM.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow out on the field at 4pm, and have a great rest of the day!
Good Afternoon, and happy Monday. This is the time of year filled with performances and productions, showcasing our efforts and talents...and growth! So much is happening at Budlong, and here is a recap of just last week:
Congratulations to all our sixth - eighth grade students who participated in our Louder than a Bomb competition. Snaps all around to top performer seventh grader Lilah Bartolome for the reading of her original poem, "Common Sense." Thank you to Ms. Yu for organizing this hip performance.
The CHiMe show also highlighted Budlong musical talent, and thank you to all our kinder - fifth grade families who attended. CHiME instructor, Ms. Rose, really brought out the performer in all our students.
And Friday was our annual International Day, complete with Opening ceremonies and dances from across the globe, all starring Budlong students! Our students went around the world, from Spain to Japan, and Greece to The Philippines, and everywhere in between. Thank you again to all our families who brought food for Taste of Budlong. What a great way to close our International Day, and break bread with friends! This is a beautiful way to highlight and teach others about what makes us different, and similar :) Thank you to our International Committee for their dedication, collaboration, and organization. Bravo!
Friday night was the CHiMe Gala at City Winery where our Sounds and Beats students performed and rec'd a standing ovation. It was a touching moment, and our students represented not only CHiME well, but Budlong, too. I am so very proud of them.
Over the weekend, seventh grader, Yuri Kolovos, received the highest honor of Best Design for his science project Rescue Robot at the state competition. Way to go, Yuri!
The NWEA, MAP math and reading, testing window begins May 20th. Your child's teacher will be sharing schedules for individual classrooms.
Know anyone who has a child entering PK next year? The CPS PK application is now available at https://cys.mycopa.com/familyPortal/welcome.epl
Budlong will have five, yes five, full-day classrooms next year. Please let us know if you have any questions.
This week we continue to celebrate Autism Awareness with our annual Autism Walk. The weather cooperated and we had sunshine for almost all our walkers. Students competed in change wars and we will have the totals soon to see which classroom raised the most money. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this amazing cause to raise awareness around autism.
Our May LSC meeting is on 5/14 at 7:45 am, and our FOB is at 8:30 am on 5/17. All are welcome. We would love to see you there! Also on 5/17, Progress reports will be sent home with students.
Be sure to check out the calendar on our website for more dates http://budlong.cps.edu/school-calendar.html
Have a great week.
Dear Families, we are cancelling the Mother-Son Dance that was scheduled for Friday, May 10th. We apologize for the inconvenience, and late notice of this change in plans.
We wish you a Happy Mother's Day, and hope you enjoy time with your loved ones
