Principal's Letter- September 12, 2017

Dear Families,
A few exciting things to note:
Budlong is so proud of the diversity in our school, and to embrace everyone within the school community, we are announcing a school-wide campaign called, "Be your own kind of Budlong beautiful." Students and teachers will be working to build and articulate their ideas around this theme. Bulletin boards have been decorated celebrating all our students and their strengths. We will again be celebrating International Peace Day, tying into our theme, on September 21.
Curriculum night, for all our kinder through eighth grade families is scheduled for September 19, from 4-6 pm. Please mark your calendars. We will be offering CHIME Show Choir, "Budlong Beats", after school this year for our sixth through eighth graders. This program begins Wednesday, September 20. Our choir director, Mr. Thacker, will be hosting a parent and student Open House on Wednesday, September 13 and Friday, September 15 from 3:15-4:45 p.m. in the auditorium.
We are the recipients of three awards and want to share with everyone:
National Healthy Schools Award - a prestigious achievement that celebrates the hard work in creating a healthier school! Schools that receive this award meet best practice criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and outlined in the Healthy Schools Program Framework of Best Practice Criteria.
Let's Move Active Schools Award - the nation’s top physical education and physical activity distinction for K-12 schools; to receive this distinction, a school must have met significant benchmarks in five areas: physical education; physical activity before and after school; physical activity during school; staff involvement; and family and community engagement.
Healthy CPS - this label demonstrates our commitment to a safe and healthy learning environment by offering daily access to physical activity, nutritious foods, and supports for students with chronic conditions. Healthy CPS aligns with Healthy Chicago, the city’s first public health agenda.
Our After School Care Program for our PK - third grade students started this week. If you are interested in the program, forms are located on our website or you can stop by the main office. The program offers care for students for one to two hours after school, and the cost if $5 per hour, per student.
If you were not able to attend our registration days, forms were sent home with your child. Please return these forms as soon as possible to your student's teacher. All fees must be paid directly to Ms. Custodio in the main office.
